“How to Write Effectively (During a Slow Apocalypse)”
Album art by Mike King
Released July 25th, 2025
The 2nd full length LP by Kahiem Rivera continues his trend of introspective, stream of consciousness rapping. The bulk of the songs are produced by and/or with Vesa Beats and feature contributions from Razor Braids, Alden Hellmuth, Syl Dubenion, Rich Robbins and NYCL KAI. The lyrics are mostly a freeform patchwork of extraneous thoughts written in quick bursts: 8 bars in between subway transfers, a quick 16 during a smoke break or a single phrase jotted quickly at a red light. There are literary references, battle rap punchlines and platitudes about self care stacked on top of each other. It’s a COVID era timestamp of anxiety reflections mixed with exercises in playfulness. It’s some of the most unserious work he’s ever written.

“Galápagos” is a song named after the book “Galápagos” by Kurt Vonnegut which is a book named after and taking place on the “Galápagos” Islands which are the islands that Charles Darwin visited and upon observing the wildlife subsequently developed his theory of evolution.

“This song was produced by my dear friend Vesa Beats with some found sounds and additional synths by me. It’s also drenched in layers of saxophone by another dear friend, Syl Dubenion. I played a 16 bar loop of the instrumental and made Syl do a 15 minute take which I then edited down & compiled into what you hear now (multiple Syl Dubenions absolutely wailing on the sax). He’s a good sport.”
